Greetings from Bakersfield California! I’m a 73 year young retired Computer programmer with a BS in Mathematics. Sewing clothes for myself began at age 9. Having a grandmother who quilted, I decided to make one of my own by 1980. I had also developed an interest in drawing and painting the last year of college. I used acrylics on raw, unprimed canvas to create Abstract Stain Paintings between 1977 and 2004. My husband and I moved a lot but I finally took a Craftsy on-line class learning fusing and hand embroidery. After making 9 small Art quilts in 2014-2016, I decided I wanted to create better Abstract Art Quilts and felt Jane’s class in Composition would help me create more interesting art work as quilts.
My name is Shannon McMillan. I am a retired Kindergarten teacher who lives in the north Salinas Valley area of Central California. I have recently finished the Fashion Program at a local junior college, but, need a composition class to round out my rough edges. I belong to an informal art group called Que Sera Sera in Salinas. We have been meeting for about 5 years. All of us take classes and come up with fabric projects. Soon, I'll be doing one that uses 100 % wool felt and food dye to color in the microwave! I didn't make this up. But, found the idea in a December Better Homes and Gardens magazine. This is the kind of thing we love! I am grateful to have this opportunity and look forward to new artistic growth.
