I grew up in a sea side town in Denmark called Aarhus, also know as the City of smiles. I would often go to the coast and surronding forest for walks. I loved taking photographs of nature and animals.
Growing up I did a variety of sewing, weaving, beading and embroidery through school clubs and being a girl scout.
I have always seeked out hand-made individual items, particularly jewellery and items for the home. I never wanted to look like everbody else and I developed my own style. I left Aarhus for London when I was 18 years old. I had various jobs and did a Higher National Diploma at The London college of fashion. I loved the freedom that London offered and that you could be yourself. After 4 years I returned to Aarhus.
I made made-to-measure clothing freelance, whilst working in a small independant artisan shop outside of town. I have a very good aesthetic eye for products such as clothing, jewellery and items for the home such as glass and pottery. The shop soon flourished and became well known for stocking hand crafted items.
I knew Denmark was not for me, so after a couple of years I returned to London. I met my husband, we married and had 2 children. During this time I have been making wedding dresses on commission and home furnishings.
I love going to craft fairs and open studios and have developed a deeper interest in textile art and jewellery. I am a self-taught felter, I use wet and needle felt techniques to manipulate wool fibres into wall hanging art, cushions and highly distinctive bracelets and necklaces. I use beads, embroidery, paints and dyes for embellishment and incorporate found items from nature.
I am naturally drawn to nature for inspiration, especially the sea. I love working from photographs taken in Denmark on my coastal walks or in the beauty that I now find in rural England.
